HULL, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) —16 teams of electric line workers battled in events that put their electric skills to the test at the Northeast Public Power Association's annual rodeo Wednesday.

NEPPA Rodeo Committee Chair Ken Stone said the contests were designed to mimic actual workplace scenarios.

"We do have a little fun with it here and there, but for the most part all the events represent real-life situations and events that can happen in the real world," Stone said.

Stone called one of those contests the "hurt man rescue." Without the help of a bucket truck, teams scaled a power pole to rescue a dummy suspended from the top.

Most teams pulled off the feat in under two minutes.

Other events included transformer replacements and pole climbs.

The New Hampshire Electric Cooperative came away with the grandest prize of all, bragging rights, at the end of the whole contest.
